Teaching as a co-creative, humanizing process: rigorous, inclusive, and compassionate learning for working adults.

Teaching Philosophy

At the heart of my teaching lies a belief in the transformative power of education — not just as a transfer of knowledge, but as a co-creative, humanizing process. My approach centers on fostering students’ critical consciousness, professional competence, and personal wholeness. I embrace the role of a co-learner, inviting dialogue, adaptability, and curiosity into every course.

Inspired by Parker Palmer’s vision of teaching as a “web of connections,” I recognize each student as an individual shaped by lived experience. I seek to support the integration of academic content with life purpose, creating learning environments that are rigorous, inclusive, and compassionate.

Core Values

Wholeness
I design classrooms that welcome the full selves of students — academic, personal, emotional — and create opportunities for authentic engagement.
Service
My teaching aims to empower students as agents of positive change through ethics, dignity, and community-centered practice.
Purpose
I guide students to uncover intrinsic motivations and align their learning with professional and personal goals.
Integrity
Ethical behavior, transparency, and trust anchor my teaching. I model accountability and expect the same from students.
Accountability
I encourage reflective responsibility for learning and leadership. Students are supported in cultivating discipline, follow-through, and ownership.

Instructional Methods

Dialogic, Experiential Learning

I rarely lecture. Instead, I foster dialogue through readings, podcasts, discussion forums, and World Café methods. Students are active participants, constructing knowledge through reflection, inquiry, and shared experience.

Presencing & Mindful Learning Routines

Each class begins with a mindfulness exercise — such as the Four-Breath Presencing Practice — to help students leave distractions behind and arrive fully. This sets the tone for inclusive, grounded learning.

World Café & Critical Dialogue

Small group discussions explore readings and real-life cases. I use dynamic facilitation to ensure all voices are heard, integrating lecture content organically into the unfolding dialogue.

Flexible and Inclusive Delivery

Content is designed for working adult learners — mobile-friendly, multimodal, and applicable to professional roles. TEDx talks, podcasts, APA-cited work, and stream-of-consciousness reflections offer entry points for different learning styles.

Educational Objectives

My educational objectives align academic rigor with practical workforce outcomes. I emphasize:

Subject Mastery
Students develop a deep, teachable understanding of core concepts.
Critical Thinking
Learners solve original, real-world problems with evidence-based reasoning.
Wholehearted Change
Learning is internalized — both intellectually and emotionally.
Transferable Competency
Skills are portable and relevant across roles and sectors.
Workforce Development
Students are prepared to lead, innovate, and grow professionally.

Student Competency Focus

All student learning is assessed through the lens of workforce relevance. Competency development includes:

  • Technological proficiency
  • Strategic planning and presentation
  • Leadership and team building
  • Problem-solving and innovation
  • Inclusion and ethics in practice

Teacher Mastery

I view teaching as both a calling and a craft. My commitment to mastery includes:

  • Personalizing instruction based on learner needs and context
  • Continuous professional development
  • Active alignment with industry standards
  • Creating inclusive, respectful, growth-oriented classrooms
  • Embodying empathy, clarity, and leadership-by-example

Inclusive Teaching Philosophy

Inclusive teaching is foundational to my practice. I:

  • Integrate diverse voices and representation across curriculum and media
  • Adapt pedagogy to support visual, kinesthetic, auditory, and neurodiverse learners
  • Use clear rubrics, transparent objectives, and accessible tools
  • Normalize help-seeking and advocate for support equity
  • Facilitate constructive dialogue on challenging topics, with empathy and respect

Students’ lived experiences are not tangential — they are central to the learning process. By cultivating trust, flexibility, and relevance, I aim to create learning spaces where every student is seen, heard, and valued.

  3. “Professor Cascamo has been diligent in her response times and has given exceptional feedback to my work. I am happy to have taken her class!”

  4. “She goes above and beyond to ensure that all styles of learning are catered to. She does video lectures, there are readings from books and relevant articles, and there are external videos that provide additional ways to present the information that just makes sense. Overall, this course is worth the time and the money; if you are taking this course, do your best to ensure she is your professor.”

  5. “I wanted to thank you for teaching such great classes. All the classes I took with you have positively impacted my roles as a leader and manager. It is so great to be able to take classes that teach me skills that I can use every day. I appreciate your insight and teachings!”

  6. “Professor Cascamo engaged students with respect and courtesy. She is definitely a subject matter expert and was a wonderful resource.”

  7. “If it were not for you, I would still be sulking over the complexities that life presented me. Grace has been a guiding principle as I approach school work and dealing with others. Thank you for what you have done for me; I do not think that I would have made it this far without you. I learned a lot and will always remember you and your kindness.”

  8. “I have thought a lot about mental health during this class, and how I have been neglecting to deal with it myself. It is a struggle that many seem to face, an ongoing battle with our own self. This topic inspired me to create the vision and mission statement.”

  9. “I think the course could not be taught by anyone other than Professor Cascamo. She embodies the meaning of servant-leadership, and I do not believe I would be able to absorb the information being taught through instruction from another professor.”

  10. “Thank you for those recommendations and words of encouragement. Your wisdom — and especially that mountain-climbing example you provided — painted a vivid picture for me. I will take those suggestions to heart and really give them thought. Thank you for sharing that personal experience with me; it really means a lot and drove the point home within me.”

  11. “I would like to take this time to thank you for everything you have said during class, and in our one-on-one exchanges. Your thoughtful and caring responses have helped me realize that I have a lot to work on in terms of accepting appreciation from others. Your recommendations felt genuine, and your approach sincere. I felt like you conducted yourself as a true mentor to the class.”

  12. “She is a wonderful instructor, and they would enjoy her class. I just wish I could have met her in person.”

  13. “Professor Cascamo made me feel relaxed and comfortable in my course at GGU. She brought thriving and truth-finding to the course and made it enjoyable from start to finish — a superstar instructor who went above and beyond expectations.”

  14. “I also had the honor of walking the stage at the graduation ceremony this past weekend. After all the hard work, it was an incredibly meaningful moment, and I could not help but reflect on the lasting impact your class had on me. The encouragement, insight, and life you spoke into me during our interactions did not just shape my academic journey — they helped shape the way I see my ability to influence others for the better.”

  15. “Professor Cascamo demonstrated exactly what she professes to all of us: building a team that knows how to take care of one another in times of crisis and prosperity. She gave of herself even during a time when everyone would have understood if she could not give, and that is inspirational. She built a network of people who would gladly step in and help her while she sorted out a tragedy in her personal life. I strive to have something like that in my life and will always reference this course because of her positive actions.”
